History

The purpose of establishing the Intelligence Center for Elderly Media Literacy (ICEML) is to advance efforts to improve the media literacy skills of the elderly in Thailand. Researchers from the Research Cluster of Communication for Development, Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia at Mahidol University, have been working on this project consistently since 2018. It has also received support from the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth).

The Center was initially launched with a research effort that led to the creation of “Media Literacy Mantra: Stop, Think, Ask, Act.” It went on to design the “Wai Pet Media Literacy Program” with senior people from pilot schools in Bangkok, Suphan Buri, Sakon Nakhon, Chiang Mai, and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces. The training program is led by Associate Professor Dr. Nantiya Duangphummet (Chair of the Center).
