The objectives of this research were to: 1) survey the value and dignity of the elderly in the highly dynamic urban society; 2) survey the situation of families in the\u00a0 urban\u00a0 society\u00a0 that\u00a0 affect\u00a0 the\u00a0 value\u00a0 and\u00a0 dignity\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 elderly;\u00a0 and\u00a0 3) analyze guidelines for promoting the value and dignity of the elderly in the urban society to strengthen\u00a0 care\u00a0 for\u00a0 the\u00a0 elderly\u00a0 by\u00a0 family\u00a0 members.\u00a0 The\u00a0 study\u00a0 comprised\u00a0 366 elderly people and 335 adult children\/grandchildren in Nakhon Pathom Municipality. A mixed methods approach integrating quantitative and qualitative data\u00a0 was\u00a0 taken with analysis consisting content analysis, descriptive statistics and a comparison of the average, ratio and correlation coefficient. The results of the study show that most of the elderly assessed enjoyed high levels of value and dignity, and felt free\u00a0 to\u00a0 make\u00a0 their\u00a0 own\u00a0 decisions.\u00a0 They\u00a0 were\u00a0 respected\u00a0 by\u00a0 the\u00a0 children\u00a0 and served as spiritual anchors for their family. Most carers for the elderly were females who had more positive attitudes towards and greater respect for the elderly than males. A guide to promoting\u00a0 value\u00a0 and dignity\u00a0 for\u00a0 the\u00a0 elderly\u00a0 includes building\u00a0 a healthy\u00a0 base\u00a0 for them,\u00a0 controlling\u00a0 chronic\u00a0 diseases,\u00a0 creating\u00a0 good\u00a0 mental\u00a0 health and cultivating love, positive relationships and gratitude.<\/span><\/p>\n
